Travel | Subic Bay Hostel and Dorm - For a Quick Getaway

Have you tried a capsule hotel before?  it's not your regular accommodation as it only features a cubby hole for its guests.  This is the main feature here at the Subic Bay Hostel Dorm in Subic, Zambales.

This is our second time to try a capsule hotel and they are almost the same.  A capsule or hole enough to hold a single size bed mattress, with a power outlet for charging or hooking up your gadgets/ laptops.

What makes them different is the cleanliness and the spaciousness of their accommodations.  To start off, they have a normal sized lobby and concierge.  We came in with a group of 30 yet the lobby was able to accommodate the chaos.  They only had two people manning the concierge yet we were up in our capsule in a jiffy.

They separated the women's capsules (second floor) with the men (third floor) and we thought this was nice.  For additional security they have lots of CCTV cameras.

For each floor they have a big common area for their guests.  It is here where one can watch TV, cook/ reheat food (via microwave) or simply relax in the big couches.

Now going in, capsules are properly marked so finding your assigned bunk is easy.  The capsule is nice.  It has storage bins on the side for your things, nice...... other capsule hotels don't have this.  There are two other things we liked with our capsule, first is the accordion door with lock.  It gave us a sense of security with this type of door. Second, the capsule had two fans.  One intake (to bring in the cold air from the hall) and another exhaust (to suck out the stale air).  This is a nice touch and made our small confined space a bit more comfortable.  Mattress was typical, not hard, not too soft either.  The outlet is located at the end, very convenient as I like sleeping with my head at the end part of the capsule.  One thing we disliked, use of their outside lockers is an added bill.

Similar to other hostels, shower and restrooms were located somewhere else and is common for everyone.  What made the difference? We really liked the free use of their shower gels in the shower rooms and the soaps (and there are tissues) in the rest rooms.  Very nice amenities to the Php390 per day rate they gave us.  Towels and personal hygiene items though are extra (not that expensive) but I always have them anyway so I didn't have to pay up.

Clean, affordable, very secured, nice ambiance, great price of Php390.  A nice way to spend a short stay in Subic if you ask us.  Capsule is not for everyone.  If you are claustrophobic or came in with your loved one, then this is not for you.  But if you are budget conscious traveller, for business or recreation, then Subic Bay Hostel and Dorm is the one for you when you passby Subic.
