About Town | Families Rescued During Typhoon Henry

During the height of Typhoon Henry, the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) rescued and evacuated residents located along the flooded river to safer areas. PRRC Executive Director Jose Antonio Goitia mobilized the river warriors to assist in the rescue operations while the river patrols monitors the water levels of the swelling river in the areas of Pasig and San Juan.

Goitia identified the affected residents along the San Juan River particularly those living in Gumamela Street, Barangay Roxas District of Quezon City. The residents were hesitant during evacuation efforts by the PRRC even with the heavy downpour brought by Typhoon Henry.

Goitia had to appeal to the residents to leave their homes and evacuate to safer ground, all while the water current in the San Juan River was getting more dangerous to both rescuers and the affected families.

“Sana huwag na po nating hintaying malagay tayo sa panganib bunsod ng pagtaas ng tubig sa ilog,” Goitia said.
The families were eventually evacuated just in time as the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) raised Orange Rainfall Warning in Metro Manila.
